Getting Started with D2L/BrightSpace

What is BrightSpace (D2L)?

D2L/Brightspace is the course management software that Itasca Community College and all other schools in the Minnesota State system use. D2L/Brightspace allows instructors to create course websites to supplement face-to-face courses or provide instruction for distance learning online courses.

Course Management Tools

Brightspace allows students to access course materials through a standard web browser. Instructors can set up their Brightspace courses to include a variety of materials including communication tools, course files, evaluation tools and feedback. Some examples include:

  • A home page for each course
  • Course calendar (schedule)
  • Quizzes and surveys
  • Chat and discussions
  • News
  • Dropbox
  • Grades
  • Pager system to let others in class know you're online
  • Course file uploads and links by modules or topics

This is the Minnesota State system-wide D2L Brightspace HelpDesk site. They support all 32 state-supported technical colleges, community colleges, and state universities. The individuals can use the sit for self-help by accessing the frequently asked questions (FAQs), live help (chat), and submitting incidents online (Ask a Question).
