[Image]Multi-Cultural Student Services

This office provides a unique program of support for students identifying themselves as having multi-cultural ancestry or as students of color. Some of the services are as follows:

  • Academic, career and personal advising/referral
  • Financial aid assistance
  • Advocacy with college faculty and staff
  • One-on-one tutoring
  • General academic trouble-shooting
  • Courses on Ojibwa language and culture
  • Mentoring

Located on the second floor of Donovan Hall, the Services to Multi-Cultural People Program includes a student lounge/study area, a microcomputer for student use, and the coordinator's office. This area is the hub of activity for minority students and their friends. Located nearby is the Academic Resource Center, computer lab and library.

Ashinabe Resource Center

Located in 105 Donovan Hall, the center is utilized by students involved in the American Indian Student Organization or the Minority Club. A computer is available as are coffee and a phone for student use. Tribal newspapers arrive weekly to keep students informed about tribal events.

O-Gitch-I-Dah

Itasca Community College has a very active American Indian student organization called the O-Gitch-I-Dah Club. O-Gitch-I-Dah is an Ojibwa word which means "heroes." This group strives to provide peer support and promotes activities which increase the understanding of American Indian culture and heritage. The O-Gitch-I-Dah Club is open to all interested persons.

Minority Club

The ICC Minority Club was established in the Fall of 1996 in response to a growing need to serve an increasingly diverse student population. The Minority Club provides students of color a forum for discussion, peer support and cultural sharing. This club welcomes all students who have an interest in diverse cultures.

Financial Aid

A variety of financial aid sources are available from federal, state, local and tribal programs. ICC's Financial Aid staff and Multi-Cultural Services staff work together to assure complete financial aid for students.

Financial aid is available for all multi-cultural people who meet financial need and blood quantum requirements. Out-of-state Indian people also are eligible for financial aid. ICC offers a variety of financial aid programs for adult and part-time students.
