Responsibilities of Students and CounselorsEffective advising is the foundation for academic success. It assumes a good working relationship between advisors and students. For this to happen, both parties must understand their responsibilities and functions.

| Meet regularly with your advisor well in advance of the registration period. Use counselor's suggestions to develop your class schedule. |
Suggests appropriate courses, approves registration and drop/add forms. |
| Evaluate your academic performance on a regular basis and identify factors that affect it, positively or negatively. |
Assists you in assuming increasing responsibility and helps you evaluate your own academic progress. Your advisor will know what requirements you lack and have an idea of what courses you need to take. |
| Develop a sense of purpose in terms of a major and possible career. Meet with your counselor to do some long-range planning. |

Each student at Itasca is assigned to a counselor. In early fall semester, you will receive a post card in the mail listing the name of your counselor. The counselors at Itasca are:
