Fall 2008 Classes

Windows and Basic Computer Training                                                                                               Computer classes include a handout and quick reference guide. Textbooks are available for purchase for $20-$35. Participants should bring a USB flash drive to class to store data files (except Abolute Beginners).

Absolute Beginners - Cheryl Bocnuk - $99 each 2 day session
Days 1 & 2: Sept. 18 & 25; 8:30-11:30 am 
Days 3 & 4: Oct. 2 & 9; 8:30-11:30 am 
If your computer is still in the box or functioning as a door-stop, the Absolute Beginners course is for you! Day 1 includes mouse skills, computer terminology, and the basics of a microcomputer. Day 2 continues with plenty of hands-on time using Windows XP operating system. On Day 3, we'll explore some of today's popular software applications, and Day 4 covers how to search the Internet efficiently and cover a little bit about digital pictures.

Learning Windows XP - Cheryl Bocnuk - $55
Dates: Sept. 30; 8:30-11:30 am OR Oct. 7; 1-4 pm (pick ONE DAY only)
Windows XP is the operating system on most personal computers used today. We use the operating system to manage our computer's resources, including starting programs, installing software and hardware, and managing files. Learn mouse skills, how to use the Desktop, Taskbar, Start menu, Recycle Bin, working with programs, multitasking, customizing your environment, organizing files, troubleshooting, and proper shut down procedures. This course is designed for new computer users with Windows XP or earlier. 

Learning Windows Vista - Cheryl Bocnuk - $55
Dates: Sept. 30; 1-4 pm OR Oct. 7; 8:30-11:30 am (pick ONE DAY only)

Learn mouse skills, how to use the Desktop, Taskbar, Start menu, Recycle Bin, working with programs, multitasking, customizing your environment, organizing files, troubleshooting, and proper shut down procedures. This course is designed for new computer users with Windows Vista.

Using Windows Vista - Cheryl Bocnuk - $55
Date: Oct. 23; 8:30-11:30 am

Learn about the new features of the Vista operating system including working with the Sidebar, Aero, programs, multitasking, customizing your environment, organizing files, troubleshooting, and proper shut down procedures. Previous experience with Windows XP is recommended.

Understanding File Management - Cheryl Bocnuk - $55 
Date: Oct. 30; 8:30-11:30 am

Does your Desktop look like a cluttered mess? Do you have trouble remembering what you named your files or where you saved them? This class will help you organize your electronic life into folders and files and give you tips on saving, finding, and opening files stored on your computer. Previous experience with Windows XP or Vista is recommended.

Microsoft Office Training                                                                                                                            Whether you use Office 2003 or have upgraded to Office 2007, you will find a class to meet your needs! We offer courses on the most popular applications in Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Publisher. Our state-of-the-art computer lab has computers and course materials available for either version of Office.

Understanding Office 2007 - Cheryl Bocnuk - $25
Date: Oct. 13; 1-4 pm

If you are planning to take any other Office course using the 2007 version, it is essential that you take this class! This is the class that will cover "What's New?" including the Ribbon, Office button, and Quick Launch toolbar. The cost is low for fall semester only!


Learning Word - Cheryl Bocnuk - $99
Dates: Oct. 14 & 21; 8:30-11:30 am

Word processing software is used to create documents of many kinds, including letters, memos, fax cover sheets, form letters, envelopes, signs, banners, newsletters, resumes, research papers, and more. Microsoft Word continues to be one of the most popular and powerful word processing software packages used today. Learn word processing basics for creating, editing, formatting, saving and printing documents.

Learning Access 2003 - Part 1 - Jack Velzen - $99
Dates: Oct. 8 & 15; 6-9 pm

Learn how to design and manage a database. This application-based course focuses on relational database concepts, designing a database, and creating simple queries.

Learning Access 2003 - Part 2 - Jack Velzen - $99
Dates: Oct. 22 & 29; 6-9 pm

Part 2 covers topics including creating complex queries, creating custom forms, customizing reports, and efficient uses of a database.


Learning Excel - Cheryl Bocnuk - $99
Dates: Oct. 28 & Nov. 4; 8:30-11:30 am

Spreadsheet software is used for book keeping types of tasks, including budget management, home financial applications, and list management. Excel is the spreadsheet component of Microsoft Office. This course is for introductory spreadsheet users and those new to Excel.  Topics covered include creating, editing and formatting worksheets, performing calculations with formulas and simple functions.

Learning PowerPoint - Cheryl Bocnuk - $55
Date: Nov. 11; 8:30-11:30 am

Presentation software is used to prepare computer generated slides and overheads for displaying a variety of business and personal information.  Learn how to create effective presentations with an appropriate balance of color, text, graphics, and font size.

Learning Publisher - Cheryl Bocnuk - $55
Date: Nov. 18; 8:30-11:30 am

Learn how to create professional looking publications such as brochures, flyers, banners, cards and more!e


Quickbooks Training                                                                                                                                        Mondays, October 6-27; 6-9 pm; Instructor Jack Velzen

Quickbooks Setup - $55
Date: October 6, 2008

QB Setup covers setting up the company file and creating lists, and is intended as the starting class for new Quickbooks users. Prior knowledge of Windows is recommended.

Using Quickbooks - $99
Dates: October 13 & 20, 2008

Using Quickbooks gives you additional tips and techniques to practice in your own work environment, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. Prior knowledge of Windows is recommended.

Advanced Quickbooks - $55
Date: October 27, 2008

QB Advanced class is tailored to the participants' needs. Advanced topics include inventory, purchase orders, estimates, receipts, invoices, statements, time sheets, tax forms, customizing and modifying reports, using classes, journal entries and memorizing transactions.

Computer Certficate Programs

Using Microsoft Office Effectively (24 CEU's) - Cheryl Bocnuk
Tuesdays, Sept. 30-Nov. 25, 2008; 8:30-11:30 am                                                                

Whether you use Office 2003 or have upgraded to Office 2007,this class will meet your needs! We will spend the first 3 hours with Windows XP or Vista (see dates and descriptions above). The remainder of the course coveres the most popular applications in Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher. Learn the tips and tricks of Word and Excel to increase your productivity on the job. Learn how to make an impressive presentation using the tools in PowerPoint, and save money by creating your own publications with Publisher! Cost: $75 each week, or take all 8 classes for $500 ($62.50 each). Includes comprehensive textbook and USB flash drive!

Topics covered include creating, editing and formatting worksheets, performing calculations with formulas and simple functions.

Week 5: Learning Excel - part 2 - November 4, 2008
Topcs include additional work with functions, data lists, and creating charts.

Week 6: Learning PowerPoint - November 11, 2008
Learn how to create effective presentations with an appropriate balance of color, text, graphics and font size.

Week 7: Learning Publisher - November 18, 2008
Learn how to create professional looking publications such as brochures, flyers, banners, cards, and more!

Week 8: Using the Tools Together with OLE - November 25, 2008
Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) allows you to share application features and files with other applications in the Office Suite.

Learning Web Design & Cascading Style Sheets (24 CEU's)
Tuesdays, September 30 - November 25, 2008; 1-4 pm                                                                             

Whether you want to learn how to update an existing web site, or how to create a site from scratch, this class is for you! We will spend the first 3 hours with Windows XP or Vista (see dates and desciptions above). The remainder of the course teaches you how to use all freeware and shareware to create basic web pages and manage digital images. Learn basic XHTML tags to design pages, how to acquire and prepare images for the Web, how to lay out a page with tables and style sheets, web design tips and tricks, and how to pull your pages together into a complete 1-5 page web site! Bring project ideas and be preared to learn and have fun!  Cost: $500 for all 8 weeks. Includes comprehensive textbook and USB flash drive!

Week 2: Overview of Web Design - October 14, 2008 
Learn how to register a domain name, finding a host, and how the web works. Create a simple web.

Week 3: XHTML Tags, Creating Links - October 21, 2008
XHTML is used to mark-up the text you see on a web page. Learn how to format headings and how to link pages together.

Week 4: Working with Images and Color - October 28, 2008
Images and color are important on a web site, but they need to be managed effectively! Learn about tools that will help you manage your image collection and how color is interpreted to a web browser.

Week 5: Image Editing & Manipulation - November 4, 2008
Lots of work with images using image editing software, including cropping, resizing, and color correction.

Week 6: Page Layout with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) - November 11, 2008
CSS is the language of web layout and is crucial to good web design.

Week 7: CSS Continued - November 18, 2008
Create a style sheet for your site!

Week 8: Putting the Site Together - November 25, 2008
The last day will pull everything together, including uploading to the host, testing your site, and how to get listed in the major search engines - Google and Yahoo.
