Tai Chi Ch'Uan Yang Style

Tai Chi Ch'Uan is the ancient form of Pugilistic art. It is relaxing movement which improves both the nervous system and blood circulation. For beginners, the gentle twisting of the waist provides exercise to the internal organs thus improving their functioning. Habitual practice will make the body agile and graceful, the mind alert and serene, and will promote good health and long life in young and old, strong and weak!

Winter is coming and those tender annual plants will be goners! Don't let them freeze until you have taken some cuttings or collected seeds so you can enjoy them again next year (or all winter!) We will talk about how to take cuttings and which plants are the easiest to root. You can make many plants now for next year (and to share with your friends) from just one mother plant. We'll also discuss heirloom seeds.

Using a Garmin GPS

Confused with how to operate your new Garmin GPS or just thinking about buying one? Both new GPS users to those with some GPS experience will find this class to be helpful as they learn to use this new technology for fishing, hunting or geocaching.  Will start with some geography basics on mapping and then move to how the GPS system works and how you can use the GPS units for basic navigation. This is a hands-on class designed  for the Garmin brand GPS units. Please note your GPS model or if you need to use one from the instructor when you register.  

A Fall Hike to the Joyce Estate

Mark Saturday, October 4th on your calendar!!! Join Susan Hawkinson, author of "Timber Connections: The Joyce Lumber Story" on a hike to the hunting lodge retreat of the Joyce family. The forest ablaze with fall colors will be a beautiful backdrop for the stories and information about the family and their retreat. This is a 4.5 mile round trip hike so wear sturdy walking shoes, bring water and a snack if necessary.

Do you have an old chair or table that you would like to make into a beautiful piece of art? In this easy step-by-step class, artist Diane Rutherford will teach you how to take something old and with thinned tinted paint and colorful mosaic turn it into a functional art piece. The first night each participant should bring a table, chair or other piece of furniture to class. This is one of those classes that at the end all you can say is WOW! (Participants will be given a short supply list at the first class.) 


Beginning Knitting

First you feel a little clumsy and then all of a sudden you will have the knitting craze! You'll be knitting scarves, hats, mittens and slippers for everyone! This is a stress free zone - the best place to learn to knit. 

Beginning Woodworking

Are you ready to learn a new skill? This class is for beginner woodworkers! And only women please. Learn how to use a table saw, miter saw, router, jigsaw, hand sander, ban saw, drill press and various woodworking tools. While learning to use the tools, each participant will be making a bench that can be used for plants or to display your favorite doodads. After mastering the bench, the last day of class will be devoted to making a very cool wooden Christmas star. 

Grant Writing - Steps of Success

Take the mystery out of grant writing! Learn the grant writing process, and how to pursue private, state, federal and corporate grants. Also learn how to locate funding sources, develop proposals and budgets, create and perform evaluation, devise funding plans and understand accountability. Mary Kay is a grant writing specialist with over 25 years of successful grant writing experience. She has written grants for northeastern Minnesota organizations in the last 10 years which have netted over $10 million for worthy programs.
