2009 Northern Division Champs
Bill McBride, an Itasca alumnus and PE instructor, has coached women's softball at ICC since 1991. In that time, the team has won six division championships and was co-division champ another year. The Viking Softball Team has played in the region championship game every year for the last five years and qualified for regionals six times. In 1998, the team finished sixth in the nation for NJCAA Division III schools and in 1999 ranked ninth nationally.
Team members and the coach have been honored for their accomplishments. "We're proud to have been the first community college in northern Minnesota to have a player named to the All-American team," said Coach McBride. "That was Laurie Larson from Hermantown, MN, in 1996." Other team members also have earned All-American honors: Christina Dake, Cloquet, MN, '97; Amy Claussen, North Branch, MN, '98; and Abbie Feldt, Greenway (Coleraine, MN), '99. Coach McBride has been MCCC Coach of the Year several times and in 1998 was named Region Coach of the Year.
