Coach Mell signs 22 on National Signing Day As signing day, February 7, 2008, drew to an end, first year coach Dan Mell signed 22 players. "I think it was a very successful day. I am not quite sure as to what numbers I should be at this early but having 22 guys on signing day should be a good start." He is still out on the recruiting trail as most of the guys are from around the area. "I have recruits that signed from McGregor, Floodwood, Hibbing, Greenway, Grand Rapids, Deer River, Hill City and other local schools, and I am still after many athletes, both local and from around the state."
As head coach Dan Mell finishes his first year at the helm, going 3-6, he is looking to rebuild on a year that started off 2-0 beating the State Runner-Up. He's excited about the recruiting process. The Vikings open camp August 11, 2008, and will have many familiar faces from his first year as he has a number of freshmen coming back.
Look for an aggressive blitzing defense and an explosive offense. Hard work, discipline, and sportsmanship will be the trademark of the ICC Vikings in 2008.
