O-Gitch-I-Dah
PHOTOS
November 2007 was National American Indian Heritage Month and the O-Gitch-I-Dah Club organized several events. In keeping with the traditions of the Anishinaabe, the first thing that must happen is an offering of asemaa (Indian tobacco) to gitchimanidoo (the Great Spirit). Larry Aitken, who is sacred pipe carrier from the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe and member of the ICC American Indian Studies faculty, performed the ceremony at Davies Theater on Nov. 14, 2007.
These three photos show Larry explaining the prayer after the ceremony. It is not respectful to take photos of the actual prayer.
