Withdraws / Bail Outs / Refunds

In an attempt to clarify policy and procedure for determining refunds and withdraw dates the following formulas will be used:

Semester Classes

Withdraws:  The last day to withdraw is determined by counting back 10 calendar days prior to the first day of Final Exam Week.

Dropped Classes:  Drops are allowed during the first five days of the semester.

Total Withdraw/Refund:  The total withdraw refund policy is established by system policy.

Bail Out:  The Bail Out window is within 10-12 days following mid-semester.  Schedule is established yearly by counseling and admissions based on mid-semester date and academic calendar.

Immersion Scheduling (Four Week Blocks)

Withdraws:  Students may withdraw from immersion courses during the first 75% of the block. This means students have approximately the first three weeks of class in which to withdraw.  Exact dates will be determined by academic calendar and will exclude holidays and duty days.

Dropped Classes:  Students have the first two days of the block to drop without financial obligation.

Total Withdraw/Refund:  Students with only one immersion class that wish to totally withdraw will be refunded by the following schedule:

  • 1st - 5th day of scheduled block    100%

  • 6th - 10th day of scheduled block      50%

  • After 10th day of scheduled block        0%

Students with completed courses may not totally withdraw.

Bail Out:  This is not an option for immersion block classes.

Hybrid Block Scheduling (Eight Week Blocks)

Withdraws:  Students may withdraw from hybrid block courses during the first 75% of the block. This means students have approximately the first six weeks of class in which to withdraw.  Exact dates will be determined by academic calendar and will exclude holidays and duty days.

Dropped Classes:  Students have the first four days of the block to drop a specific class without financial obligation.

Total Withdraw/Refund:  Students with hybrid block classes only will be refunded according to MNSCU Board Policy. For students with a combination of hybrid courses, and regular semester courses policy will be determined by the Provost's Cabinet.

Bail Out:  This is not an option for hybrid block classes.

Early End/Late Start Classes

Withdraw:  The faculty association approved on 10/11/01 that early end/late start classes are eligible for withdraw up until 75% of the class is completed.  Classes that meet more than a total of eight times are calculated by calendar days rather than by actual class days.

Dropped Classes:  Classes have a seven-day add/drop period.

Total Withdraw/Refund:  MNSCU Board Policy will be applied based on the number of weeks the class runs.

Bail Out:  Option is available up to 55% completion of the class as established by calendar days on the official schedule.

Short Session Classes

These are special courses that meet a total of eight times or less.  The withdraw/total withdraw-refund/bail out dates for these classes will be determined on an individual basis, using the number of class sessions.  (An example would be the EDUC class 1000 that meets one Friday evening and one full Saturday.)
