Geography Program Graduates

Where are the Geography Program graduates? What are they engaged in? What do they have to say?

2003

Barb Kowalski - Associate in Applied Science, Natural Resources/GIS. Barb completed her internship in 2003 with the Minnesota State Department of Natural Resources - Forest Resource Assessment Office, Grand Rapids, MN.  She remains employed with the agency and is continuing coursework to complete the Associate in Science Degree in Geography/GIS.

Sherry Buckley - Associate in Applied Science, Natural Resources/GIS. Sherry completed her internship in 2003 with the Minnesota State Department of Natural Resources--Forest Resource Assessment Office, Grand Rapids, MN.  She remained employed there for four years before accepting a position with the Fish and Wildlife Service as a GIS support specialist.  Sherry has plans to return to school and complete a B.S. Degree in geography with a GIS emphasis, offered at Bemidji State University.

Nick Daigle - Associate in Applied Science, Natural Resources/GIS.  Nick completed an internship in 2003 with the United States Forest Service, Chippewa National Forest, Deer River, MN.  He transferred to Bemidji State University to complete a Bachelor of Science Degree in geography, and has continued to work seasonally for the USFS.  He has applied to graduate school at North Dakota State University to pursue a master's degree in geography.

Dustin Nelson - Associate in Applied Science, Natural Resources/GIS.  Dustin completed an internship in 2003 with the United States Forest Service, Chippewa National Forest, Deer River, MN.  Dustin was a proud recipient of an award given to him by the agency and continues to work there seasonally.  He is currently attending Bemidji State University to complete a bachelor's degree in geography. 

Derrick Odegard - Associate in Applied Science, Natural Resources/GIS.  Derrick completed an internship in 2003 with the Planning Division of the United States Forest Service, Chippewa National Forest, Deer River, MN. He transferred to the University of Minnesota at Crookston and completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Resources Management.  Derrick then worked on a helitak crew in Yellowstone National Park before accepting a position as a Range Technician for the United States Fish and Wildlife Service out of Fergus Falls.  Contact: Odie7224@hotmail.com

Adam Sutherland - Associate in Applied Science, Natural Resources/GIS.  Adam completed an internship in 2003 with the United States Forest Service Research Station in Grand Rapids, MN.  He transferred to the University of Minnesota at Crookston and completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Resources Management.  Recently Adam was offered and accepted a position as a forestry technician for Blandin Paper Company and is using his GIS skills to support its operations. 
 

2004

Jim Lind - Associate in Applied Science, Natural Resources/GIS.  Jim transferred to the University of Minnesota at Duluth to complete a Bachelor of Arts Degree in geography.  He has plans to continue his education and seeks a master's degree in geography from the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. 

Jack Velzen - Began a privately operated business, Midwest GIS, located here in Grand Rapids, MN.  He provides GIS services to private contractors, local and regional governments.

Jeremy Cable - Certificate in GIS. Continues to work as a biologist for the United States Forest Service, Chippewa National Forest, Deer River, MN.  Jeremy has coordinated with ICC Geography to employ student interns graduating from the Geography/Natural Resources programs.

Tracey Roy - Associate in Arts and Certificate in GIS.  Tracey completed her internship in 2004 with the Minnesota State Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Division, Grand Rapids, MN.  She now works for Itasca Community College. 

Nathan Flannigan - Associate in Applied Science, Natural Resources/GIS.  Nathan completed an internship in 2004 for the Itasca County Land Department.  He recently accepted a position with MN Direct Properties in Grand Rapids. 

2005

Kim Hanson - Associate in Science, Geography/GIS.  Kim completed her internship in 2004 and has continued to work for the Minnesota State Department of Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation Division, Grand Rapids, MN for the past 2 years. She transferred to Bemidji State University and has nearly completed her bachelor's degree in geography.  

Jeff Killmer - Associate in Science, Geography/GIS.  Jeff completed his internship in 2004 with the Minnesota State Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Division, Grand Rapids, MN. He transferred to Bemidji State University to complete his bachelor's degree in geography.

Scott Anderson - Associate in Science, Geography/GIS.  Scott completed an internship for the Itasca County Land Department, Grand Rapids, MN.

Casey Green - Associate in Science, Geography/GIS. Casey is currently completing an internship for the US Forest Service, Chippewa National Forest, Deer River, MN. He transferred to Bemidji State University to complete his bachelor's degree in geography.

Robert Hawk - Associate in Applied Science, Natural Resources/GIS.  Robert completed his internship in 2004 with the Minnesota State Department of Natural Resources - Forest Resource Assessment Office in Grand Rapids, MN.

Justin Beckner. - Associate in Applied Science, Natural Resources/GIS.  Justin completed an internship with the Balsam Volunteer Fire Department, MN.  He transferred to the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities.

Nathan Kosbau - Associate in Arts and GIS Certificate.  Nate completed an internship with the Northern Minnesota Agricultural Research Station, Grand Rapids, MN.  He transferred to the University of Minnesota.

Brian Geirsdorf - Associate in Applied Science, Natural Resources/GIS.  Brian has continued to complete wildlife (and other surveys) for surrounding responsible agencies such as the Minnesota State Department of Natural Resources and Itasca County.

Joshua Gager - Intended degree (Fall 2005) is the Associate in Science, Geography/GIS. Josh completed an internship with the Planning Division of the U.S. Forest Service, Chippewa National Forest, Deer River, MN. He then transferred to Bemidji State University to complete his bachelor's degree in geography.

 
2006 
Gentry Carlson - Associate in Science, Geography/GIS.  Gentry completed an internship with the U.S. Forest Service Research Station in Grand Rapids, MN.  He has transferred to Bemidji State University to complete his bachelor's degree in geography. 

Devona Berndt - Completing her Associate in Applied Science Degree in Natural Resources with a GIS Emphasis. She will complete her internship with the U.S. Forest Service, Chippewa National Forest, Deer River, MN.

Kevin Sutherland - Completing his Associate in Science Degree in Geography/GIS.  He plans to transfer to St. Cloud State and pursue a bachelor's degree in surveying.

Ryan Miskovich - Completing his Associate in Science Degree in Geography/GIS.  He plans to transfer to Bemidji State University to pursue a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography.

Kyle Okke - Completing his Associate in Science Degree in Geography/GIS.  He plans to transfer to Bemidji State University to pursue a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography.

Casey Souder - Casey is completing his Associate in Science Degree in Geography/GIS.  He plans to transfer to Bemidji State University to pursue a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography. Currently he is completing an internship with the U.S. Forest Service, Chippewa National Forest in Deer River MN.
