Student Experiences at ICC
Here are some interviews with former engineering students about their experiences at Itasca Community College.
Corey Weston, 2007 ICC Engineering Graduate
What did you do in your free time when you went to ICC?
"With my free time I played a lot of pool before, between and after classes. Outside of school I went hunting and fishing with my buddies every chance I got."
What was your favorite engineering project?
"My favorite project was the tree house project. We designed it for the static mechanics class. It involved coming up with a design and actually making a scaled-down design."
What did you like about the small class sizes?
"The small class sizes allowed me to interact with the teacher's lectures. I didn't feel awkward or dumb if I asked a question."
Did you ever have trouble getting help from teachers or other students?
"ICC teachers are some of the best teachers I have ever had. They were willing to stop what they were doing and help me. They had great attitudes. They really wanted me to learn the material. They were also real people that you could visit with about hunting or whatever interested you. My fellow students were also great. We always worked together on homework and projects."
What was your favorite engineering trip and why?
"My favorite trip was all of the Twin's games. It was fun to get a chance to see games at minimal costs. It also gave me a chance to hang out with classmates outside of the classroom."
Taryn Kuusisto, 2007 ICC Engineering Graduate
What was your favorite engineering class and why?
"Fluids - not my favorite subject, however, it was my favorite because of Glen Hodgson (engineering professor) and his humor... toilets... enough said! And because of our project that definitely failed after hours of brainstorming and actually having a plan!"
What was your favorite project?
"The mouse trap car races."
What was your favorite engineering trip?
"The Vista Cruise in Duluth- May 2007."
What did you do in your free time outside of school?
"Free time??? What's that... definition please? Just kidding, I played volleyball for ICC and hung out with friends."
What is the one thing that you will never forget about ICC Engineering?
"Teachers, friends, and the memories we made!!"
