Associate of Science 


The Associate in Science Degree is awarded for successful of programs with highly structured, professional-level, technical requirements. Recipients of this degree are prepared for transfer to baccalaureate majors in the same field. A majority of liberal arts and science courses are prerequisite to, or specifically supportive of, certain technical courses. 

Candidates for the Associate in Science Degree from Itasca must complete the following minimum requirements:

  • 64 credits
  • Specific course requirements for one of the following programs:
  • A minimum grade point average of 2.00
  • A minimum of 30 general education credits from the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum
  • A minimum of 20 credits must be completed at Itasca in courses numbered 1000 or above.

Students also can take prerequisites for the following pre-professional majors and transfer their coursework from Itasca to a four-year university.

The Minnesota Transfer Curriculum

Transfer students who are not interested in completing an associates degree at Itasca may complete the 40 credit Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MTC). The MTC is composed of general education courses selected from ten goal areas. By completing the 40 credits a student will fulfill the liberal education requirements at public four-year colleges throughout Minnesota.
