Geography & GIS

Instructors working with GIS instruments outdoorsGeographic information systems (GIS), satellite imagery/aerial photography and global positioning systems (GPS) are all components of Geospatial Technologies (GST). GST are routinely applied in diverse career fields from urban/regional planning, engineering, business and public health to archeology, natural resources, law enforcement and social services. Regardless of your college major, degree or professional career, most organizations routinely utilize geospatial technologies for information and decision-making.  Employees with an understanding of GIS and GST are in high demand in many different fields, agencies and locations nation-wide.

The Geography & GIS Program at Itasca Community College (ICC) is dedicated to developing students' knowledge of geospatial technologies and how they can be utilized to explore dynamic interrelationships between humans and their environment.  Coursework taken at ICC prepares students for entry level professional work settings and creates a foundation of geographic skill and knowledge for further study. Individuals of all backgrounds and disciplines and expertise are welcome.
