Perspectives In Engineering
Itasca Community College The Best Place To Start
For twenty years, ICC Engineering has worked hard to
"change the face" of engineering education at our college. We've always
believed that anyone who wants to become an engineer should have that
opportunity in a comfortable, welcoming environment. "The Perspectives In Engineering (PIE) scholarship program is aimed at providing students from a variety of backgrounds, regions, and cultures with the opportunity to pursue an engineering degree."
This web page has many resources to help you learn more about the
PIE Program, and guide you through the application process. However, if you
need more assistance, please email Kim Damiani, Director of Engineering,
at kimberly.damiani@itascacc.edu. or call her at 218-322-2370.
Mentoring
At ICC Engineering we keep class sizes small and our faculty available,
but in case that is not enough to ensure your success, we will also
provide you with a mentoring engineer. This engineer will have a
background and culture different than your instructors, but like your instructors, be dedicated to you academic success. In short, he/she
will serve to give you advice in any situation you find yourself in.
This engineer has been where you are. They've
experienced the hard work and responsibility it takes to complete your
education. They're there to help you every step of the way, and to
provide an "outside" opinion. Being part of a mentoring team is a
privilege few students get before they enter graduate studies; use this
resource to its limits.

Residential Living (Housing)
You'll hear us talking a lot about our "Learning
Community" at ICC. It's actually an entire philosophy, and everything
we do in our Engineering Program starts from that base.
Our
two on-campus Engineering Residence Halls were thoughtfully designed to
encourage participation in our Learning Community, while providing
safe, comfortable , and convenient student living.
Itasca and Wenger Halls are reserved for engineering
students first, then filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The
Learning Community at ICC Engineering provides a full academic and personal support
network for each and every one of our students.

Engineering Degree Overview
You've heard the speeches about how engineering is a
great career. You know you'll probably make a lot of money and improve
the world a little or a lot. Well that's then, how about now? You're wondering
what your classes will be at ICC. Will they be interesting? Hard? Are you
up to the challenge?
To answer these questions fully would take a long
time. At ICC Engineering we have developed the Engineering
Professional Development course track that all of our students benefit from. These
classes answer the above questions and provide exceptional professional
development. Some covered areas are resumes, career planning,
engineering professions, etiquette, interview skills, and much more!

Connecting With Your New Community
The Perspectives In Engineering project is a
continuation of ICC's efforts to increase the diversity of perspectives
in engineering, both in our program and throughout the nation. We've
had great success with programs designed to bring women, Anishinabe,
first-generation college students, and others into our program.
Thanks to this track record, we have a unique
opportunity to further increase the diversity of perspectives in
engineering. With your cultural background and hard work, you will
change the face of ICC Engineering, and make our program better for all
students who follow. We've put a great deal of thought into how to
welcome you into our Learning Community, and ask that you continue to
help us improve it.
Please download our brochure, "Connecting With Your New Community," available by clicking here. Then talk to us about the ideas presented there. We look forward to hearing from you.
Scholarship Summary
What if you could attend your first two years of college (tuition, food, books, supplies, housing, etc.) for under $5000 per year. Among other benefits, the PIE Scholarship provides you with $3000 each year to go towards your college expenses and, depending on your travel distance to Grand Rapids, up to $5000 additional annual award.
Realize that even without a scholarship, ICC Engineering is literally "more for less". By this we mean our learning environment, student success rate, and student satisfaction is higher than most every university engineers program across the nation at 50-60% the tuition and housing cost.
